Kobra is Anycubic’s filament line and Photon is its resin line — so the choice between them is really the choice between technologies. Once you know which technology suits your work, picking the model within each range is straightforward.
Start with the object, not the printer
The most reliable way to choose is to describe the thing you most want to make, then work backwards.
If the answer involves the words bracket, housing, mount, jig or replacement part, you want filament — those objects need toughness and usually size, and both are filament’s strengths. If it involves figure, miniature, model, ring or prototype for casting, you want resin, because the value is in surface finish and fine features.
People who guess wrong almost always guess the same way: they buy resin because the sample prints look spectacular, then discover that everything they actually need is functional, and that resin parts snap. The photographs are honest — they are simply photographs of the one thing resin does best.
The Kobra range — filament
Kobra printers melt filament and build layer by layer. They suit functional parts, larger objects, prototypes, enclosures, brackets and general-purpose printing — the everyday work most people buy a printer for.
What separates the models
- Build volume. The most practical difference. Larger models print bigger objects in one piece, avoiding the splitting-and-gluing that makes big projects tedious.
- Speed and motion system. Newer models accelerate harder and hold quality at higher speeds.
- Enclosure. An enclosed machine holds heat around the print, which is what allows ABS and ASA to print without warping — and, in Egypt, keeps dust out of the mechanism.
- Multi-colour. The Combo versions ship with a multi-material system.
Are the Combo models worth it?
Only if you will use multi-colour, and there is a real cost to understand first. Every colour change purges the nozzle to flush the previous colour out. On a print that changes colour frequently, the purged waste can exceed the weight of the model itself.
Two settings make it manageable: purge into the model’s own infill where the slicer allows, and order colours light to dark, since flushing dark out of a nozzle takes far more material than flushing light.
The under-appreciated benefit is that a multi-material unit is also a filament management system. Even printing in one colour, it keeps several spools loaded and switches automatically when one runs out mid-print — which stops the failure where a long job ends at 80%.
The Photon range — resin
Photon printers cure liquid resin with a masked UV screen. They are the right choice for detail: miniatures, jewellery masters, dental and scale models, and anything where visible layer lines would spoil the result.
What separates the models
- Screen resolution and size. Together these set both the finest detail and the largest object.
- Build volume. Resin build volumes are smaller than filament ones, which is a genuine constraint rather than a specification detail.
- Speed. Faster curing per layer, which matters most on tall prints.
Remember the process cost: every resin print needs washing in isopropyl alcohol, curing under UV, and support removal — fifteen to thirty minutes of handling per batch, in gloves, with ventilation. Factor that in before choosing resin for convenience reasons.

What Egyptian conditions change
Two things are worth weighing locally.
Heat. PLA softens around 60 °C — a temperature a parked car interior passes easily in summer. If your parts will live anywhere hot, you want PETG or an enclosed printer that handles ABS and ASA. That argues for an enclosed Kobra rather than the cheapest open-frame option.
Humidity and dust. Filament absorbs moisture and prints badly when wet; resin degrades in light and heat. Both want sealed, cool, dark storage. Dust is the quieter problem — it settles into open mechanisms and shortens component life, which is one more argument for an enclosure.
